Modern industry arrived in Caldera in the 1950s. A large mechanized pier is built for the iron of the Cerro Imán mine. The Jorquera quay for grape exports and the pier for Candelaria copper ore follow.

In addition, tourism stabilized more massively in the 1980s and 1990s. Currently there are no shortage of restaurants, hotels, and tourism infrastructure is well developed.

Between plaza and sea (Paseo Gana 210) is the house Tornini. A historic building that currently houses a History Museum and an events center. There are exhibitions of historical documents. There are also excursions to different sectors of the Atacama Region.

The remodeled railway station is now the cultural center of the city. In addition to concerts, exhibitions inside the station we find a paleontological museum that shows a multitude of fossils from the area, this museum is in connection with the Paleontological Park in Bahía Inglesa.
