The Salar de Pedernales is a large salt flat located in an enclosed basin with no natural drainage. (there is an artificial tunnel in this case). The Pedernales Salt Flat is also the largest salt flat in the Atacama Region.

The best option is (with a 4X4 vehicle) to go to the viewpoint, near the old borax mine. There are a few kilometers above a regular road to the north (there are signs at the entrance).
The salar stands out for its panoramic views of the mountain range.

Do not enter directly into the salt flats - it is extremely dangerous and there are "marshy" areas where there is not enough soil stability.

The accumulations of salt are impressive. Up to the other shore in the photo are more than 30 kilometers.
