Mining Museum of
Tierra Amarilla:
In Tierra Amarilla opened 2011 an excellent Mining Museum. Minerals,
documents from the most important mining districts of Atacama, are
displayed in a pleasant atmosphere. In the courtyard are rocks, minerals
and machines used in the past. The museum is open Monday to Friday (8:00
hrs. - 17:00hrs) and Saturday and Sunday between 9:00 hrs. - 13:00 hrs.

The historical mansion of the Museum was the administrative building of
the old Agustinas Mine. Luckily for an excellent management and
restoration the house remained as in the past years.
Mining:
As already mentioned, Tierra Amarilla was or is a mining center.
Countless chores in the surrounding hills - mainly copper mines. Here it
joins large mining, medium mining, small mining, historical mining that
in an impressive way can be recognized in the museum mine "El
Transito".
You can still see the immense amounts of slag left by centuries of
copper ore processing in the sector that is currently located only
meters east of the center. It is important to mention the huge Edwards
foundries that for years were a source of employment for the city and
the region.
Today these immense amounts of slag produce more than a headache to the
authorities - a useless giant location in the center of the city - but
it is a silent witness to an early period of industrialization where the
labor source had to be near the workers' homes.
